Growing potatoes from seed is easy and can be very rewarding. All you need to do is decide which variety is best for you. Seed potatoes are usually categorised by harvest and sowing times commonly know as first earlies, second earlies, maincrop and salad varieties

First Earlies are best harvested in small quantities & eaten straightaway when fresh in June & July.
Second Earlies and Salad varieties can also be harvested in small quantities and eaten when fresh in June and July.  Alternatively, if the skins are allowed to ‘set’ – i.e. they don’t rub off when lifted – cut the foliage down to stop continued growth, lift in September and store as per Maincrop varieties.
Maincrop varieties can be lifted from September onwards and stored as long as the tubers are lifted in dry conditions or are dried properly.  Store in a hessian sack in a cool, dark, frost-free area.

We have a variety of seed potatoes available in different sizes to suit all gardens. From handy pre-pack varieties ideal for container growing and when space is limited, to Unwins 2kg net varieties which are perfect for planting in larger gardens.

To select the correct seed potato variety for you, use the harvest selector to choose the month in which you want to harvest your potatoes. Note the colour coding and match the colour accordingly to the pack to select the variety of your choice.

Our plant guarantee on all our hardy plants ensures a replacement or a credit note against any container grown hardy plant which dies, providing that it is not a result of neglect or due to adverse weather conditions. All that we ask is that you return the plant with the receipt as proof of purchase.

For the second year running, Stratford Garden Centre has won the Ruxley Rose Competition for the Best Plant Area Displays in the Midlands and has won the Home Living category for the first time.

The Garden Centre Association judged each region in the UK in categories appropriate to the size of their business.  Many of the country’s leading garden centres belong to the Garden Centre Association and each one has to achieve a high level of good business practice before they can be accepted as an Approved Member. To ensure that high standards are maintained, each garden centre is inspected annually.
